Description

In the heart of Knapdale, soft autumn rain seeps into a native hazelwood where ferns rise through velvet mounds of Polytrichum commune, the common haircap moss. This is Scotland’s rainforest at its most natural—unplanted, unmanaged, and thriving. Hazel, traditionally coppiced and long associated with ancient woodland, forms a low, branching canopy that filters light gently to the forest floor. Beneath it, mosses and lichens flourish, sustained by the humidity and shelter these trees provide. Such woodlands are increasingly rare, but here in Knapdale, they endure—proof that given time and the right conditions, the rainforest can reclaim its rhythm.

The paper

This photograph is printed on a 100% cotton museum-grade Fine Art Platinum 310gsm Canson paper offering the aesthetic and feel of the original F-Type Baryta Fibre paper, having a true pure white tone without using optical brighteners that are known to affect the longevity of digitally produced images. The surface finish is satin with a slight texture. This paper shows excellent black density and exceptional grey tones, which is perfect for the more discerning black and white as well as colour photographic prints.

The ink
