Description

In the moss-soaked woodland of Ariundle, an oak has fallen—but it has not died. From its trunk, new limbs rise and twist through the canopy in a quiet act of defiance. Known as a “phoenix oak,” this natural phenomenon is common in Scotland’s rainforest, where the damp, fertile climate allows fallen trees to regenerate and carry on. Draped in mosses, ferns, and lichens, the trunk becomes both cradle and corridor for life. Even the ancient stone wall it lies upon is softened by time. In this forest, decay and renewal are not opposites, but partners in an endless cycle—life, growing from what once fell.

The paper

This photograph is printed on a 100% cotton museum-grade Fine Art Platinum 310gsm Canson paper offering the aesthetic and feel of the original F-Type Baryta Fibre paper, having a true pure white tone without using optical brighteners that are known to affect the longevity of digitally produced images. The surface finish is satin with a slight texture. This paper shows excellent black density and exceptional grey tones, which is perfect for the more discerning black and white as well as colour photographic prints.
