Description

In the upper reaches of Puck’s Glen, beyond the maintained paths, filtered light pierces through towering conifers, illuminating a thick carpet of moss and ferns. Though the scene feels ancient, many of the trees here are not native. Sitka spruce and Douglas fir, planted for commercial forestry, now dominate parts of this once-diverse landscape. Their dense canopy casts deep shade, suppressing native understorey species, while their shallow roots often fall victim to storms—leaving behind fallen trunks that speak to instability. Rhododendron ponticum, another introduced species, spreads across the forest floor, further threatening biodiversity. This is a rainforest shaped as much by what was added as by what remains—a place of haunting beauty and quiet ecological tension.

The paper

This photograph is printed on a 100% cotton museum-grade Fine Art Platinum 310gsm Canson paper offering the aesthetic and feel of the original F-Type Baryta Fibre paper, having a true pure white tone without using optical brighteners that are known to affect the longevity of digitally produced images. The surface finish is satin with a slight texture. This paper shows excellent black density and exceptional grey tones, which is perfect for the more discerning black and white as well as colour photographic prints.
