Breath of the Forest – Scotland
Description
Clinging to the trunk of a native hazel, Lobaria pulmonaria—commonly known as lungwort—flourishes in the rainforest stillness of Glasdrum. This large, leafy lichen is more than a visual marvel; it is a living gauge of environmental health. Exceptionally sensitive to air pollution and habitat disturbance, lungwort grows only where conditions are stable, moist, and undisturbed. Its presence speaks to the purity of the air, the continuity of the woodland, and the resilience of native species like hazel. In places like Glasdrum, the rainforest still breathes—and this lichen is part of its voice.
